Das Splash-Image von Grub kann man anpassen. Mit Hilfe von

convert newimage.jpg -geometry 640x480 -colors 14 newsplash.xpm && gzip newsplash.xpm

wird die JPEG-Datei newimage.jpg ins entsprechende Format umgewandelt und als newsplash.xpm.gz gespeichert. Danach muss man die erzeugte .gz-Datei in den Ordner /boot/grub kopiert und die Datei /etc/grub.conf entsprechend anpassen werden:

timeout=10
#splashimage=(hd0,0)/grub/splash.xpm.gz
splashimage=(hd0,0)/grub/newsplash.xpm.gz
